Association Membership

The Canadian Association of Movers represents owner-managed moving companies from across Canada. As an industry association, our objectives are to further the interests of our members and provide a forum in which issues of mutual concern can be discussed.

  • CAM’s conferences, at which movers have an opportunity to hear the latest in management techniques, information technology and concepts in the moving industry

Membership Requirements

Applicants may be required to submit various documents to complete the membership-approval process. All membership applications are subject to approval by the Board of Directors.

MOVERS

CAM requires applicants to have:

  • been in business as movers for at least two years.
  • publicly-accessible storefront operation.
  • prominent signage visible to the public from the street or parking lot.

Applicants for a mover membership may be asked to:

  • complete an application form.
  • agree to a site visit with the principal applicant by a CAM Director/alternate.
  • provide CAM with the following documentation (photocopies only):
    • Business licence
    • Recent photos of premises and vehicles
    • GST/HST registration and number
    • Workers’ compensation certificate
    • Insurance certificate showing a minimum of $1 million commercial general liability and a cargo limit minimum of $250,000 (proof of valid, sustained insurance will be required each year upon membership renewal)
    • Incorporation certificate
    • Two trade references with length of relationship (e.g., bank, moving equipment supplier, etc.)
    • Signed Code of Ethics form (pdf)
    • Sample of online advertising or promotional items (optional)

Once an application is approved by the Board of Directors, membership will be probationary for the first six months and, if there are no issues or complaints during that term, will be extended for a further 6 months.

SUPPLIERS

Applicants for a supplier membership may be asked to:

  • complete an application form.
  • provide CAM with the following documentation:

Applicants will also be contacted by a CAM representative to review the company’s background, goals and expectations.

AFFILIATES

A company that does not move household goods by truck but that provides moving-industry-related services, such as packing services, downsizing services, junk removal, etc., may qualify to be an Affiliate member.

Applicants for an affiliate membership may be asked to:

  • complete an application form.
  • provide CAM with the following documentation as is relevant to their business, such as (photocopies only):
    • Business licence
    • Photos of premises and vehicles
    • GST/HST registration and number
    • Workers’ compensation certificate
    • Insurance certificate showing a minimum of $1 million commercial general liability
    • Incorporation certificate
    • Two trade references with length of relationship (e.g., bank, moving company, etc.)
    • Signed Code of Ethics for Affiliate Members form (pdf)
