CAM’s Annual Awards Dinner
Our annual awards dinner is scheduled for Monday evening, November 5, 2012. This year, CAM will honour the following individuals and groups for their contribution to the moving industry, the Association and the Canadian public as a whole:
- Distinguished Service Award – Randy Hoyt
- Industry Achievement Award – John Rausch
- Innovator Award – Dale Ittas
- Public Service Award – Kevin Devereux and North American Van Lines

California Air Resources Board (CARB)
Effective January 1, 2013, the California Air Resources Board’s regulations require compliance on trailer aerodynamics for all trailers operating in California. This regulation applies to 53-foot box trailers.
While the fines for non-compliance are significant, the payback in fuel savings can be obtained in as little as 50,000 km.
Low rolling resistance (LRR) tires will become mandatory for all trailers by 2017.
For tractors, the regulations require model year 2011 or newer sleeper cab tractors have the required aerodynamics and low-rolling resistance tires. 2010 and older sleeper cab tractors are required to have low-rolling resistance tires. Compliance is required by January 1, 2013.
Electronic On-board Recorders
There has been a lot of discussion in the US regarding the requirements for electronic on-board recorders (EOBR) for commercial vehicles. Regulations on EOBR are currently in place but an implementation date does not appear to have been finalized. Watch for details. This will affect all commercial vehicles traveling in the US.
