Mover’s Edge, July, 2010

Summer Moving Season

The moving industry is starting its busy season. CAM wishes you lots of successful moves and many happy customers.

CAM’s 2010 Annual Conference

The Canadian Association of Movers’ 2010 Annual Conference is scheduled for Sunday to Tuesday, November 14 to 16, 2010, in Toronto. It’s titled: Times are changing! – Are you ready?

CAM’s Annual Conference Committee has developed a program that will provide you with business information that you only get at a CAM conference – information that will help you meet the challenges of marketing and operating in a changing marketplace.

Our opening speaker will be Roy Osing, author of Be DiFFERENT or be dead and former president of TELUS Advanced Communications, who will share practical concepts and ideas about developing and implementing a useful and useable strategy for setting your business direction.

He will be followed by speakers who will inform you on topics that include:

  • Marketing and managing the moving of seniors
  • Marketing to the Echo generation – 25- to 35-year-olds who will be your customers for the next few decades
  • Using social media – how the internet, Facebook and LinkedIn provide new and effective methods of reaching consumers
  • Finding out what law enforcement agencies in Canada are doing to remove the rogues from the moving business
  • Learning about the direction for Canada’s economy for 2011 and checking out how well last year’s presenter, Paul Ferley, did in preparing you for the economic events of 2010
  • Exploring records storage as a business opportunity. Get the information directly from PRISM, the Professional Records & Information Storage Management Association
  • How does the economy of Western Canada differ from that of the East? Understanding the differences you need to know to market effectively in the West.

And Helen Wilkie of MHW Communications, our closing speaker, will show you how to implement the concepts and ideas you have been given at the conference.

CAM’s annual conference provides you with a flood of new approaches for improving your business. You will not only find out about them, but you will also learn how to use them.

And don’t forget, the conference is a great place to meet your friends from across Canada!

CAM Awards

We will be presenting our three awards this fall at the 2010 Annual Conference:

  • Distinguished Service Award
  • Innovators Award
  • Founders Award

Visit CAM’s website and nominate a deserving member of the Canadian moving community NOW.

Golf 2010

CAM’s 14th annual tournament will take place at Granite Ridge Golf Club on Monday, September 20, 2010. Don’t miss it! Watch for announcements by fax and email.

Job Opportunities

Job opportunities listings on CAM’s website have become increasingly active in the last few months with postings for sales consultants, operations staff, trainers and managers.

Membership

Déménagement Monette Express of Québec City and Dollies & Boxes Unlimited of Toronto have joined CAM after an absence of a few years. Welcome back!

MovesOnline

For the past several months, CAM has hosted a link on its website to MovesOnline, the online move referral service. CAM is discontinuing the service on its website and recommends that members contact MovesOnline directly (www.movesonline.com) to arrange for a personalized link to the service.

Retraction

In the Spring 2010 issue of The Canadian Mover, we stated that Armstrong Movers was involved with Tree Canada, which they had been in 2009. Allied Van Lines Canada is now Tree Canada’s exclusive moving company. Both Allied and Armstrong are committed to environmentally-responsible operations. CAM regrets the mis-statement.

CAM’s Office Hours

The CAM office will be open throughout the summer with a few exceptions. Please note that the office will be closed on Canada Day and Friday, July 2.
